Duck Hunting

Duck hunting here in Argentina is an extreme adventure for anyone that loves hunting waterfowl. You may have experienced duck hunting north of the equator, but in the southern hemisphere there are some noticeable differences.

The biggest difference is one that becomes very clear to our clients their first day in the field: the duck population consists of many varieties. These include:
  • Cinnamon Teal
  • Brazilian duck
  • Red Shoveler
  • White-faced whistling duck
  • Speckled Teal
  • Fulvous tree duck
  • Brown pintail
  • Silver teal
  • Southern Wigeon
  • White-cheeked pintail
These are all wonderful ducks, but the one that we really favor for duck hunting is the Rosy-billed Pochard. Also known as “rosies”, these are easily identified by the bright red bill on the drakes. They are known for their agile flight and are similar to the canvasback ducks in the US. Rosies are found in great abundance here, and they respond well to duck calls and decoys.

The other difference here in the southern hemisphere is the sheer volume of ducks. They are everywhere. When they rise into flight together, you might swear you feel the ground shake. And the sound of that is something you have to experience. The duck hunting experience is amazing in Argentina – the number of ducks you might shoot in a season at home can often be taken in a day or two here.

The high volume shooting opportunities means that you can feel a little more relaxed. If you miss a shot or aren’t quick enough to get a shot off, you can take comfort in the fact that more ducks will be coming along again very shortly. You will probably shot at more ducks in a short period of time than ever before, which means your skill level will increase as well. After a day or two of duck hunting, you should see your accuracy percentage start to climb.

The areas where we will be hunting are a mix of farmlands, marshes and wetlands – ideal conditions for waterfowl, and paradise for duck hunting. We hunt from blinds over decoys. The ducks will be called for you, and our boys will also go and pick up all of the ducks you shoot. This is one of the great advantages of coming to a lodge such as ours and being catered to and assisted while hunting; your primary concern can just be when to take your next shot. You don’t have to worry about all the minor details such as ammunition or your spare gun, because we take care of all those things. This is one of the reasons our clients return year after year for great duck hunting.

We do have a daily bag limit for ducks, which is 20 per hunter per day. This limit is set and enforced by the Entre Rios Province Game Department, and we never violate that. You will most likely reach your bag limit before the day is over, but not to worry – there will still be time left in the day for doves. We make sure that no daylight hours are wasted when they could be spent hunting!

Our clients tell us repeatedly how enjoyable their duck hunting trip was, and we are pleased to provide hunters with a wonderfully memorable experience. We can tell you how great the accommodations are, and how tasty the food is – but those are things you can get at many locations around the world. However, we can offer a hunting experience here in Argentina that is like nothing else you can experience anywhere. Come and see what we mean!
